Ledgerfest thank you!

A sincere thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s “Have a Heart Take Part” Ledgerfest event on February 17, 2018. With your help, we were able to raise over $115,000 net to support SMSA. Your generous giving is a tribute to the commitment you have for St. Mary’s Springs Academy.
A significant percent of our overall budget is dependent on money raised at events like Ledgerfest, and helps offset the $41,000 per day expense to run our great school.
A special thanks to the many volunteers who contributed to the event’s success. Ledgerfest’s “Have a Heart Take Part” committee did an outstanding job of organizing and running the event.
Again, thank you for your support…it is essential to the ongoing growth and development of SMSA. More importantly, it is an investment into today’s youth, who are destined to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Please take a moment to view the below video from our students and faculty on what SMSA means to them!

Navigating Wisconsin Parental Choice as a Current SMSA Family

The Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) application is open from now until April 20, 2018. It is important for CURRENT families to note that you are only eligible to apply for children that are at “natural entry points” at SMSA, meaning going into 4k, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 9th grade–otherwise, you are not eligible to apply. The criteria for the WPCP is based on WI residency and household income. The household income requirements have been adjusted to 220% the federal poverty level. Current families who are interested in the WPCP program, should look at the commonly asked questions section of our website and complete the online application. Applications are due April 20, with the state-conducted random lottery taking place shortly after, and awards being made sometime in June. For more information, please contact SMSA School Choice Administrator, Kelly Norton, at (920) 322-8007.

School Nurse

The Fond du Lac community and many surrounding school districts have seen in increase in illnesses, including influenza. We are doing everything we can at SMSA to keep the illnesses out of the building, but need your help. If your child is sick, please keep them at home. Here are some reasons you should keep your child at home:

  • Temperature of 100 or above. When your child has had a fever, his or her temperature should be below 100 for at least 24 hours without the use of Tylenol or ibuprofen.
  • Coughing frequently or has a productive cough (is coughing up phlegm).
  • Had diarrhea or vomiting in the past 24 hours.
  • Is complaining that his/her ears or throat hurts.
  • Is very tired because of being up during the night with any of the above symptoms.
  • Has seen a doctor who prescribed an antibiotic. Generally a child should be on an antibiotic for at least 24 hours before returning to school; your doctor will give you specific instructions.
  • Is just “not feeling good” or is acting sluggish.

When you do keep your child at home please call the school attendance line (920-322-8036) early in the day to let us know the reason for illness.  If your child has been diagnosed with a communicable disease such as influenza, strep throat or pink eye please tell the office.  If your child develops signs of illness at school, you will be contacted to come and take him or her home.

Thank you for helping keep our school healthy! Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions at khellmer@smsacademy.org or 920-322-3206.
