From the Office of Steve Kelnhofer, PreK - 8th Grade Principal

Dear Parents,

As the leaves begin to turn we are reminded of the beauty God puts inside nature as the seasons come and go. Same with us, there is beauty inside that is brought out as we go through our seasons of life. This school year, beauty can be seen as the children experience learning opportunities that come in the form of spiritual, academic, physical and emotional opportunities of growth. Just like leaves fall from the trees as they change, our children fail and fall to experience growth as well. This is okay and natural as they journey through life as they learn.

Be active by listening, watching, guiding, and supporting as you see your child/ren’s inner beauty revealed full of colorful character unique to each individual child.

God Bless,

Steven Kelnhofer

Love and Logic Tip of the Week: Chores are the basic building blocks of pride and feelings of being loved and needed by one’s family. Kids who have this at home don’t need to find it outside the home.

Morning Drop off Reminder for PreK - 5th Grade

The South Hall doors open at 7:50 a.m. each morning. They will lock again at 8:00 a.m. when the school day starts. Students are to remain outside in the holding zone behind school if they arrive before 7:50 a.m. This “holding zone” service starts at 7:35 a.m. The other choice would be to enroll in the Before School Care program.

Students will be let in early if it’s determined they will be too wet by standing outside or if it is below zero windchill.

Thank you for your help and understanding.

Upcoming Dates

Grade 6 - 8 Honors Chorus - applications due September 23rd

Ms. Roltgen, 6 – 8 Choir Instructor, is beginning an Honors Chorus open to any 6th, 7th or 8th grader who loves to sing. You do not need to be enrolled in chorus to join.

Honors Chorus is an extra-curricular (non-graded) group designed to have fun singing. This group will perform at the Christmas and Spring Concerts as well as occasionally for Mass or other school functions (like school assemblies, Christmas caroling, etc.).

Honors Chorus will meet Wednesdays during Ledger Time and Recess from 10:15 – 10:44 a.m. (Students are allowed to eat their snack in the chorus room during that time). We will also occasionally meet on Fridays during 9th hour on non-Mass days. The first rehearsal is Wednesday, September 25, 2019.

If your child is interested in joining, have them pick up an application/permission form outside the chorus room (2077). If you would like a copy e-mailed to you, or have any questions, send a note to Ms. Roltgen at aroltgen@smsacademy.org.

Applications need to be turned in by Monday, September 23, 2019.

FREE Herald subscriptions for Grade 6 families - deadline October 4th

From now until Friday, October 4, 2019 the Milwaukee Catholic Herald invites all families of 6th graders in Catholic school and/or religious education to receive a FREE one-year PRINT and ONLINE subscription to the weekly newspaper.

Why 6th grade families? Because this is an informative time for the family. Parents are nurturing and guiding their children as they enter the teen years, and we want parents to have a resource that focuses on developing the same life-long values being instilled in school and the home.

In every issue of the Milwaukee Catholic Herald, we learn, grow and share our faith as a Catholic family. What better way to bring a family closer together than with a free, one-year subscription to the Catholic Herald?
