From the Office of Steve Kelnhofer, PreK - 8th Grade Principal

Dear Parents,

Happy Halloween!  No this is not a trick or a treat, but the first quarter comes to a close on Friday, November 1, 2019.  Teachers will be working on completing grades, end of day, on November 1st into the following week.  Grades will be available to view on an electronic report card Friday, November 8th. Please electronically sign once you’ve viewed the report card.  Thank you.

I’ve found it useful to not focus on the grade when discussing the report card with my child, but focusing on asking them what they think of their accomplishments or growth areas.  It’s best to get an understanding of what they felt they did well and what they would like to do better at next quarter. Then ask them, “What is your plan to reach this goal.” This thought process helps focus on the child and not the grade.  Grades come and go, but our relationship with our child is forever.

God Bless,

Steven Kelnhofer

Love and Logic Tip of the Week:  Wise parents know that doing the right thing won’t guarantee a happy kid.

Halloween Celebrations - November 1st

Students from PreK – 5 will be celebrating Halloween on November 1, 2019 in the afternoon. Please have your child/children bring their costume and they will change into them in the afternoon. We plan on parading to the Mother House (320 Co Road K) around 1:15 p.m. and then returning to enjoy an afternoon of Halloween fun in the classrooms.

Please no gory/bloody or demonic type costumes.  Masks and weapons of any kind are not allowed.

News and Information

DINO-Mite Bookfair Thank you

Thank you to all the families who visited the book fair and took time to place their vote for their favorite DINO-Mite Pumpkin.  Through your donations we raised approximately $750 for the All for Books Campaign! These funds went directly back to SMSA and were used to purchase books for the library as well as providing each teacher with a new book for their library.  Scholastic, in return, will match this donation and donate to schools/community libraries in need. Way to go Junior Ledger Families!

The winner of the pumpkin voting was Mrs. Wuest’s 4th Grade Class with their “I Survived the Attacks of September 11th.”  They will enjoy a pizza party.

New this year was the Administrators’ Choice Award.  We had SMSA Administration Staff vote on their favorite pumpkin.  Mrs. Lund’s 5k class won with their “Groovy Joe Ice Cream and Dinosaurs” creation.  They will be treated to a popcorn party.

Thank you to our volunteers who helped us in one way or another for our Fall Book Fair, we couldn’t have done it without you!  See you in May at our BOGO Book Fair!
