Dear Families,

I pray all of you are healthy and well. I apologize for the misunderstanding around the parent survey that was sent out last week. SMSA and I realize how the message may have been hard to determine.  The intent of the parent survey was for ALL parents from grades P3 – 12. You are all important members of our community of learning and we would like to hear from you by Monday, April 20, 2020. Thank you.

P3 – 12th grade parents, please click here to access the P3 – 12 parent survey. If you have already taken the survey, there is no need to take it again.  Thank you in advance for your valued participation.

As we journey together, please stay in communication with your classroom teachers, counselors, student services or myself if you need support, a ear to bend, or clarification of a question. Peace be with you.

God Bless,

Steven Kelnhofer

Love and Logic tip of the Week

Strategies to help learning at home. Using two small choices around schoolwork is a powerful tool. The key to success with this technique involves remembering three things:

  1. Give most of your choices before your child becomes resistant…not after.
  2. With each choice provide two options, each of which you like.
  3. Be prepared to choose for your child if they don’t select an option you provided.

While these ideas can’t solve all of the parenting challenges we face right now, they’ll increase the odds of getting through each day with fewer power struggles.

SMSA Virtual Learning Surveys

From the SMSA Leadership Team

SMSA Families,

We are asking all P3 – 12 parents and students in grades 6-12 to take a couple of minutes of their time to complete a Virtual Learning Survey. Your responses are very important to us. With your feedback we will be able to provide an excellent educational experience during this period of social distancing and virtual learning.

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

News and Information

Musical Madness for Parents

Ms. Roltgen has designed an optional Musical Madness match-off for her music students and has invited parents and teachers to participate as well. Let’s build community in our time of social distancing as well as broaden our knowledge of musicals!

Once you sign up via email with Ms. Roltgen, every couple of days you will receive a google form with a link of 2 songs from musicals to listen to on YouTube. You then choose your favorite song and vote. The results will be tallied each week and in about a month, we will find out the winning musical selection. There are three brackets: 4th/5th Grade Bracket, 6 – 8 Grade Bracket and Parent/Teacher Bracket. Each bracket has the same songs, so this is a great activity to do with the whole family!

To sign up, please email Ms. Roltgen at  There is still time to vote for this week’s songs.
