From the Office of Eamonn O'Keeffe: High School Principal

TEACHER FEATURE!

Last week I had the pleasure of introducing our two new part-time faculty members,  Dr. Carlson and Mr. Kieser.  I also invited parents to return to this eLedger column each week during the fall to learn more about members of our excellent high school faculty to be highlighted each week this fall in the eLedger. This week, I am delighted to highlight Mr. Allen and Mrs. Anderson.

Mr. Brian Allen joined the faculty of SMSA in 2011.  He is licensed and certified in the State of Wisconsin to teach math and science in grades 6-12.  Currently, Mr. Allen teaches Algebra II, Honors Algebra II, AP Calculus I, Physics and College Physics.  In addition to his teaching duty with SMSA, Mr. Allen serves as an adjunct instructor for Marian University, approved to offer both the College Physics and Calculus I courses for dual credit (students earn both high school and college credit simultaneously).

Before sharing his talent on the Ledge, Mr. Allen taught math in the Winneconne School District, was a math, science, and ACT prep instructor for Sylvan Learning Center, and a science teacher at Kimberly High School for nine years.  Mr. Allen also has served in higher education as a physics instructor at NorthWest Technical College and a physics lab instructor for UW-Oshkosh. Early in his career, Mr. Allen worked at the UW Madison Synchrotron Radiation Center where he collected and analyzed data on magnetic circular dichroism.  Mr. Allen would be delighted to explain that to you sometime! Mr. Allen earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh.  Growing up in Watertown, Wisconsin, Mr. Allen has called the Fox Valley his home for the past 25 years where he has served as a volunteer through Christ the Rock in Menasha, and the Fox Valley Humane Society.

Mrs. Corinne Anderson has been a member of the SMSA faculty since 2016.  She is licensed and certified in the State of Wisconsin to teach math in grades 6-12.  Currently at SMSA, Mrs. Anderson teaches Honors Algebra I, Algebra II, Advanced Math Concepts and Pre-calculus.  Mrs. Anderson serves as chair of the Math-Science super-department, and is moderator of the Math Club and Academic Bowl Team.  She also is a sophomore class moderator and homeroom teacher.

Before serving at the Springs, Mrs. Anderson served as a math teacher at Horace Mann High School in the North Fond du Lac School District, and for 10 years at Fond du Lac High School.  She has experience teaching everything from pre-algebra to technical college math.

Mrs. Anderson is a proud Ledger herself, and is very excited to have her children continue the tradition of attending school at SMSA.  She earned both her Bachelor of Science Degree and her Master’s Degree in Educational Technology from Marian University.  Living in the Holy Land with her family, Mrs. Anderson enjoys supporting her parish and SMSA through service opportunities.

Both Mr. Allen and Mrs. Anderson effectively build positive rapport with our students, and are both especially interested in helping students develop their ability to think critically and become confident problem solvers.   Their efforts continue a tradition of excellent teaching on the Ledge.  The Springs community is blessed that Mr. Allen and Mrs. Anderson have chosen to share their experience, skills, talents and interests with our Ledgers.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: DON’T FORGET SEPTEMBER 14, 6:30- 8:30pm

On Wednesday, September 14, all high school parents/guardians are invited to the Ledge for “Back to School Night.”  Reservations or RSVP’s are not needed.  Parents are asked to arrive by 6:30pm and will be given a copy of their daughter/son’s course schedule upon arrival.  Beginning promptly at 6:35pm, parents will follow their student’s schedule to each classroom to meet teachers and receive an overview of course content, objectives and student expectations.  Each class will last 10 minutes and parents will be able attend all 8 periods of their students Master Schedule – ending by 8:30pm.  When STUDY HALL appears on the schedule, parents will have the opportunity to meet with administration for a chance to discuss Covenant and Handbook questions.

Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us.

ACT Test in October at SMSA

SMSA has scheduled an opportunity for juniors and seniors to take the ‘ACT without Writing’ here at SMSA on Tuesday, October 18th, 2022, during the school day.  Many seniors who didn’t have an opportunity to retake their ACT over the summer will use this opportunity to take the ACT a second time.  It is also the first opportunity for current juniors to sit for the exam before they take the ACT in Spring.

There is no a limit to the number of times a student may take the ACT.  Many students across the country choose to take multiple tests to improve their ACT score.

If your student wants to take advantage of this opportunity, please complete a brief survey by Friday, September 16th, 2022, in order to secure a spot.

Please contact Mr. Stamatakos with any questions about this opportunity,
