Report Cards and End of Quarter I

Just a reminder to parents that Quarter I Report Cards are NOT mailed. Instead, families will have access to the “Student Profile” section of Skyward to view a Quarter I Report Card.  Families may print the Report Card at home if they wish to have a paper copy.  Our first academic quarter concludes on Friday, October 30th – which is a scheduled early release day for students (11:30 a.m.) as faculty will have the afternoon to complete grading.  As usual, families will not have access to Skyward temporarily during the Quarter grade entry and verification period Friday, October 30th – Thursday, November 5th.  At 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 5th, Quarter Report Cards will be accessible.

While Quarter grades are not “permanent marks” in a student’s official high school transcript, they are an important indicator – a snapshot in time – of student learning in specific content areas.  This final week of the Quarter provides a great opportunity for parents and students to examine academic progress together.  It can be an important time for students to make-up missing assignments or assessments.  Parents are always able to reference the Ledger Learning Guide  SMSA Ledger Learning Guides Home Page to see weekly learning targets, resources and expectations in every course.  Parental partnership in helping teens stay organized and focused on learning priorities each week is always appreciated.

Back to School Night – Teacher Videos!

As you can all attest, our school year plans have already seen many adaptations in light of the changes brought by the coronavirus  pandemic.  Back to School Night, normally an in-person and on campus event scheduled in September, was canceled this year in an effort to have SMSA remain faithful to health precautions.  In its place, we promised high school families a “virtual alternative” to be shared in October near the end of Quarter I.  I am very pleased to introduce our virtual alternative at this time!  Virtual Back to School Night 2020

Student Survey Results

During the week of October 12th, all high school Ledgers were administered a survey about the A-B- Modified Block Schedule that has been adopted at SMSA during the 2020-21 school year. Students submitted the surveys anonymously, and the results shall remain anonymous.  We are pleased that 80% of students completed the survey by last Friday. We are also very pleased with the findings of the survey.  Overwhelmingly, our students provided positive feedback about their experience with the new schedule and the adaptations that are associated with it. Please find the student survey results here. Student Survey: Modified Block Schedule . One NOTE: The results are in table format for the first 8 questions.  There were 2 final questions that were short answer formats.  We are still combing through that feedback (232 responses to each question).  Those replies are also looking quite positive, and we will share these in a subsequent eLedger!
