Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week has been the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. This year, the National celebration of CSW is scheduled next week from Sunday, January 28 – Saturday, February 3. The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2024 is “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.”
Schools across the country typically observe the annual celebration week by celebrating Masses, scheduling open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, schools highlight the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation. Based on the average per-pupil cost of $14,330 per school year, the National Catholic Educational Association estimates that Catholic schools across the country provide $24.3 billion in savings each year for the nation.
At SMSA, we trace our history to 1909 when the Sisters of St. Agnes accepted the challenge to open an academy for young women aged 7-16 years old. The academy has been evolving ever since – always faithful to its humble Catholic roots! For over a century on the Ledge, we recognize that what we learn becomes part of who we are. We work hard to integrate our Ledger Way core values into the hearts, minds and imaginations of our students. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to fostering these values in students during our school days, ever conscious that SMSA instructors are responsible not only for academic standards, but for character education in the Catholic tradition.
Catholic Schools Week 2024 at SMSA will offer special daily themes culminating with All System Mass on Friday. We look forward to celebrating our community and our faith during this unique and important next week. All parents and guardians are invited to join the celebration at Holy Family Church for our Catholic Schools Week Mass at 9am on Friday, February 2.
Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us.
Mr. Eamonn O’Keeffe,
High School Principal
Our annual Bibles and Blankets Project for Catholic Schools Week is made possible this year by the generosity of our Elementary and Middle School students and families who supported our Penny War this past fall! Students from all grades will have the chance to help cut and tie blankets or create prayer cards for our bundles. The Holy Family Warming Shelter will receive 30 twin size fleece blankets to be used in their facility as a result. Thank you!
If you are the parent of a SMSA student athlete, please consider giving your time to help out in our basketball concession stand or with admissions. The Booster Club supports ALL SMSA sports, so feel free to help out at those activities your kiddos are not involved in, assuring other parents can watch their son or daughter in that particular sport. This is a great opportunity to serve and see/meet more of our Ledger family.
Signing up is easy…. just click on one of the links below and select a date that best fits your schedule. Thank you to those that have already signed up and given their support! Go Ledgers!
