FROM THE OFFICE OF STEVE KELNHOFER, PREK - 8TH GRADE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Learning on the Ledge has been filled with joy as student work is appearing in the hallways and in the classrooms. Mrs. Angie Roltgen has resigned as our grade 4-8 music teacher. We wish her well on her future journey. Due to the resignation, Mr. Schmahl has stepped forward and will be expanding his music teaching at SMSA. Due to the nature of reforming schedules, some of the sixth and seventh graders had a slight change in their schedules. We ran copies for students this past Tuesday. Schedule changes may be seen through Skyward.

Asynchronous/Synchronous Learning

I want to acknowledge the fact that there have been questions and concerns regarding a previous eLedger in which I indicated that when a student is out due to suspected illness, a child was marked absent and recommended to participate in asynchronously learning for the day.  Based on this feedback, we are investigating opportunities for improvement and added flexibility regarding synchronous/asynchronous delivery of virtual learning.  Please expect to hear more during parent/teacher conferences and in the coming week/s.  Thank you for your partnership and understanding.

Grades 6-8 Parent/Teacher Conferences Note

Please look for parent/teacher conference instructions included in this eLedger. Grades 6-8 will be hosting virtual conferences through their homeroom teacher. Please schedule via skyward conference scheduler through the class named HOMEROOM. The “HOMEROOM” conference list is the schedule our teachers will be following. Please reach out to other content teachers and schedule individually if you wish to schedule with them.

Reminder: Cell Phone Policy for 6th-8th Grade

As we begin the year, we just wanted to send a reminder about our current cell phone policy. Each grade 6-8 teacher has taken time to review this policy with their homeroom students this week so that everyone is aware of our expectations regarding cell phones at school.

Students are allowed to bring cell phones and/or other electronic devices to school, but they must be kept in their lockers, turned off, and stored at their own risk during the school day. Grades 6-8 may check their phones during passing time at their locker. Students are not allowed to use cell phones during school hours unless granted permission to use them by a staff/faculty member.

Any devices taken away by a teacher or staff member during school hours will be placed in the South Hall school office and must be picked up by a parent/guardian.

We thank you in advance for your support and cooperation in reinforcing this with your child. Our home and school partnership is an integral part of providing an amazing learning environment for all of our students.
