Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

The end of the school year is fast approaching!  Students are awaiting summer and the adventures that lie ahead of them.  A time to run in the sun and discover the world in new and exciting ways.

Before we reach summer, here are some items to be mindful about as the school year comes to an end.

First, please know your student will be bringing home a hard copy of their report card on Friday, June 1st.

Secondly, P3 will be having a field day on Wednesday, May 30th, in the afternoon.  High School seniors will be hosting this field day event; sounds like it will be lots of fun.  Grades 4th-5th will be having their field day on Thursday, May 31st, in the afternoon.  A variety of games and activities are planned.

Thirdly, if your child has lost any items of clothing this year, please check our Lost and Found located in the South Hall Office.  All unclaimed items after Friday, June 1st, will be donated.

Lastly, Friday, June 1st, is our last day of school.  School will conclude at 11:30 am. There will be no after school care on June 1st.

Enjoy with your child the end of a successful year by remembering exciting events, awesome adventures and knowledge gained!

God Bless,
Steven Kelnhofer

SMSA Summer Reading Program-A Magical Summer of Reading

Did you know that when kids read over the summer they are more likely to leap ahead when they return to school?  This is often called the “summer leap” and we’ve made it a priority at SMSA to try to keep your child’s skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long.

This year, SMSA is signed up to participate in a FREE online SCHOLASTIC reading program that students will log their reading minutes.  Please click here to read more about this summer reading program…including a special challenge from Mr. Kelnhofer!

Box Tops Summer Collection

Thank you for collecting Box Tops For Education throughout this past year.  Because of your efforts, SMSA earned $3,918.20!  Proceeds will be disbursed to the Music Department, Art Department and Physical Education Departments allowing them to make exciting extra purchases.

So that we can top our 2017/2018 earnings – each child in grades K-5 will receive a ziploc gallon bag with a collection sheet for summer use.  Fill the sheet…better yet, fill the bag and bring it back the first week of the 2018/2019 school year!

Other rebate programs we partake in are:  Milk Moola (caps and labels from Kwik Trip Milk) and Loaves for Learning (UPC labels from Country Hearth & Village Hearth bread products).  Put them in the bag as well. .

For more information on these programs contact Sherry Holmes at sholmes1030@gmail.com or Chris Gilles at cgilles@smsacademy.org.
