From the Desk of Steve Kelnhofer - Elementary School Principal

Dear SMSA Families,
As the school year draws to a close, I want to share my sincere gratitude to each of you. Your engagement and support are essential to our community, and we deeply appreciate your partnership as we help our students prepare for bright futures.

A special thank-you to Mrs. Lewis and Mr. Scudella for their outstanding leadership at Wednesday evening’s concert. Our 5th–8th graders performed beautifully and made their families and SMSA proud with their lovely musical selections.

We are lucky to have teachers who model the Ledger Way core values. Their professionalism and dedication have encouraged learning, growth, and joy in our young musicians. Thank you, Mrs. Lewis and Mr. Scudella, for your continued commitment and for inspiring our students.

Thank you also to all teachers and staff for supporting the SMSA Student Showcase scheduled for Wednesday, May 20. This event highlights the year’s learning and achievements that deserve celebration. We celebrate with appreciation for our faculty and staff as they transform the school into a living museum including a special Glow Show for the afternoon. As a community of learners, we have much to celebrate and remember from this year’s journey. We look forward to welcoming many parents to the Ledge for the SMSA Showcase and Glow Show — it promises to be a very sweet event!

As the year ends, please review your child’s progress and any missing work in Skyward. It’s a helpful time to acknowledge accomplishments and address any outstanding assignments.

Eighth graders will be released from school on May 27th after the K–8 Mass and celebration at Holy Family. The Mass and special ceremony is to honor our eighth-grade class as they move forward and onto high school.

Students in P3 through 7th grade will remain in session through May 29th. The last week includes fun activities such as field days, yearbook signing, and more. Please note that May 29th is a full day of school.

Thank you for your continued support. Let’s finish the year with shared encouragement and celebration of our students’ successes.

God bless,
Steven Kelnhofer
Elementary Principal, SMSA

News and Information

Calling All 5th Grade Families!

Your Student is just a few weeks away from completing their Elementary school years here on the Ledge and is ready to take the next step – Middle School! This is an exciting time filled with new opportunities and greater independence.

Transitions can bring a mix of emotions for students and we want to make this experience as smooth as possible for them. This year we would like to invite you and your student to Middle School Orientation on Wednesday, May 20th at 5:00 pm in Baker Gym. This is an opportunity to learn about some of the differences between Elementary School and Middle School.

This timing will follow the Student Showcase and “Glow Show.” Mr. Kelnhofer, Mr Thuerwachter and Mrs. Dengel will be your hosts for the program. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Shannon LaLuzerne, Director of Enrollment at slaluzerne@smsacademy.org.

See you Wednesday the 20th

Attention Parents and Guardians of Future 2nd Graders

Please read the below letter from Holy Family about registering for First Communion and Reconciliation preparation, which opens this summer.

Please note: sacrament preparation will take place through the parish, not during classes at SMSA. Be sure to review the information carefully so you do not miss any important details or deadlines.

Looking for Book Fair Co-Hosts!

We are getting excited for our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair, which will be held May 19th through May 21st, and we are looking for a few wonderful volunteers to serve as co-hosts for this and future fairs!

Co-hosts help with organizing the fall and spring book fairs, coordinating plans between Scholastic and SMSA, and keeping things running smoothly during the fair. It’s a fun way to be part of the excitement, support our school community, and, with additional support from more co-hosts, make better book fairs!

If you’re interested in volunteering to be a co-host (or would like more details), please email me at lemeryak@gmail.com. I’d love to have you join me in planning future book fair events.

Thank you for helping make our Book Fair a success!

Warm Regards,

Kayleigh Lemery
