From the Desk of Steve Kelnhofer - Elementary School Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,
SMSA will be on spring break next week as the campus will be closed and offer a time to reflect, relax and re-energize. Every day on the Ledge offers small moments of education. Every day is a blessing to go out and achieve. An opportunity to be grateful for the amount of growth that has occurred in educating the whole child. I’m blessed to get to witness the awesomeness of our teachers and staff each day as they give their talents and heart as gifts to the future. May this break offer a time to spend with family, time to step away from the business of school, time to reflect how far we have come thus far and time to rest for preparation for the end of the school year.

Happy early St. Patrick’s Day! St. Patrick used the shamrock to teach and explain the Holy Trinity as he traveled about evangelizing. He taught that just as the shamrock has three leaves, it is still one. Just as the Holy Spirit, the Son and the Father make up the oneness of God.

This idea correlates to education at SMSA as well. There are many stakeholders to create the oneness of an SMSA educational community. The parents, students, and SMSA create the opportunity for one Catholic education rooted in Christ’s teachings, striving for academic excellence, living into service for church and community, as we prepare students to meet global challenges and become leaders for tomorrow.

Safety
Please support keeping our drop off and pick zones safe. Over the last few weeks, vehicles have been observed using the driving lane, instead of the hug and go lane, to drop off your child(ren). Please use the entire hug and go lane, including the west side, when dropping off your child(ren) if you choose not to use the parking lot. Children and adults need to use the crossing areas of the parking lot instead of cutting the corners of the parking lot to the lower playground. This is designed for your safety. Please reduce your speed to the posted 5 mph and drive phone free in our school zones. Please use the South Hall parking lot as it was designed. It takes all of us as a community to keep everyone safe. Thank you.

Forward testing – Week of March 18th
Forward testing for Grades 3 – 8 will be occurring at the end of March. As part of the Forward testing, students need to have wired earbuds/or wired headphones to take a piece of the Forward Exam. Please join us in making this a successful endeavor by having your child(ren) here at SMSA during the testing window. Thank you.

Thank you for your continued partnership with SMSA. Together we create a path for tomorrow’s children to achieve amazing dreams.

God Bless,
Steven Kelnhofer
Elementary Principal, SMSA

Junior Ledger Softball Grades 3-6

Is your daughter interested in playing softball this summer? We are looking at building both a Junior Ledgers Minors (grades 5th/6th) and Rookies (3rd/4th) team.

In order to make these teams happen, we would need a couple parents to step forward to help coach the team. Coaching typically consists of a Monday night practice and additional practices as desired/scheduled and one game a week (Rookies games are on Tuesday, Minors games are on Thursday) between 6-9pm. The season runs from the middle of May until the end of July.

Please reach out to Kurt Konkol by Friday 3/8 at 5:00pm via email: kurt.konkol@excelengineer.com if you are interested or would like more information.

WI Parental Choice Program Opens February 1, 2024

The WI Parental Choice Program (WPCP) online application period will open February 1, 2024 and will close on Thursday April 18, 2024.

The DPI requires current Choice families to fill out the application for the 2024-2025 school year. Filling out the application for next school year (2024-2025) informs the DPI that you want to receive your Choice voucher for 2024-2025. If the DPI does not receive an application from a current Choice family the DPI assumes that you do not want the voucher for the next school year and your voucher will not be renewed.

New and current families must electronically submit their application here.

Current Choice families are not required to provide income documentation.

NEW families, applying for a school voucher, must be income eligible to apply. The following income limits have been posted for 2024-2025:
Family Size Maximum Yearly Income*
1 $32,076
2 $43,384
3 $54,692
4 $66,000
5 $77,308
6 $88,616
For each additional member in a family add $11,308.

Family income includes the income of the student’s parent(s)/legal guardian(s) that reside in the same household as the student.
Current Choice families are not required to provide income documentation. Proof of residency documents are required for current and new families.

WI Parental Choice Program information is available on our SMSA website by going to the Enroll tab at the top.
