Early Release - March 6th

Due to Faculty and Staff in-service, students will be released at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020.

From the Office of Steve Kelnhofer, PreK - 8th Grade Principal

Dear Parents,

Welcome to March. Students are busy learning about alms giving, prayer and fasting as we travel through the season of Lent. Wednesday, March 11, 2020 we’ll be having Reconciliation available for students in grade 2 – 8. We will also be preparing for Forward testing. Grades 3 – 8 will be participating in the Forward test. If you are curious to learn more about the Forward test, please click here for more information.

Faculty Transition

Sixth grade teacher, Ms. Julia Treichel, has recently resigned from SMSA. Her final day will be Tuesday, March 24, 2020 and arrangements have already been made to have Mr. Jacob Ford be the long-term substitute. We have been so blessed to have Ms. Treichel as a teacher at SMSA, as she brought an eagerness to support learning for her students and an abundance of faith into the classroom. We wish her the absolute best on her new path!

New for lunch

Due to the new Catholic Mutual Insurance recommendations stated below and the staff we have to support our lunch room at this time, we will be pulling the microwaves from the elementary side of the cafeteria. If your child is bringing cold lunch, please make sure it can be eaten cold. Microwaves will not be able to be used by students Grades K-5.

Catholic Mutual Insurance Recommendation: Do not let the K-5 students use the microwave without an adult. An adult should be the one to set the timer and remove the food. The reasoning is that microwaves can range from 750 to 1500 watts and the food can be burned and a mouth can be burned.

Love and Logic Tip of the Week

In very difficult times, you still offer tremendous hope to others.

News and Information

Ledgerfest Class Auction Package - Donation Deadline April 4th

Hello Elementary School Families,

My name is Andrea Nuss, SMSA parent, and I am a part of our Ledgerfest committee. Planning has begun for this annual fundraiser that will be on Saturday, April 4, 2020 and we are in need of your help! This year we would like each grade level to contribute towards a basket that will be based on a specific theme. This basket will then be a part of the silent auction portion of this event.

To help make this basket possible, we are asking our families for a donation of at least $5 from each student . If you can’t give that amount, please consider giving whatever you can give. If you would like to donate more, you are welcome to do so. Please send this money into school in a sealed envelope with “Ledgerfest School Basket Donation” written on it along with your child’s name and grade level by Friday, March 6th.

Completed baskets will be available for bidding at Ledgerfest on April 4th. Register today by clicking here. If you can’t make it to the event, and would like to still bid on the baskets, keep an eye out for information on how to accomplish this via mobile bidding.

If you have any questions, please contact me at alnuss@charter.net.

Thank you so much for your willingness to help make this year’s Ledgerfest a success!

Andrea Nuss
