From the Desk of Steve Kelnhofer - Elementary School Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this message finds you well and filled with joy. As we navigate through the school year, we are grateful for your ongoing support and partnership in nurturing our children’s growth and learning.

The Epiphany of our Lord was celebrated early this week on January 6th. The Epiphany is a time to reveal our Savior and announce His coming to the world. We often think about the three wise men during the Epiphany. They offered gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. This opportunity gives us time to reflect: What gift will I bring Jesus this year?

January 24th is the conclusion of the first grading period for our Early Childhood Program, including P3, 4K, and Kindergarten. Please expect a narrative report card to come home with your Early Childhood child(ren) on January 27th.

From January 13th to 24th, SMSA second through eighth graders will be taking their winter MAP assessment. SMSA would appreciate all students in school during the MAP testing window. We look forward to seeing the growth of our students and the application of knowledge that has been a work in progress during the first half of the school year. The student data from MAP scores is used in real-time by the classroom teacher. The data informs future instruction by displaying patterns of growth. Learning is rarely a linear line in real-time and is usually more of a spiral of forward movement. The MAP data is also used more broadly to show trends of our SMSA system and is used for future class scheduling as the students mature as learners.

We are looking forward to our ongoing collaboration and celebrating more achievements in the weeks to come. Thank you for your continued partnership with SMSA. Together, we create a path for tomorrow’s children to achieve amazing dreams.

God Bless,
Steven Kelnhofer
Elementary Principal, SMSA
