Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our Lenten journeys began last week Wednesday with the Ash Wednesday mass. Through Lent we are called to get closer to Jesus as we repent and return to the gospel. We also remember we are dust and to dust we shall return. Let’s make the most of our time together this Lent and choose to create Holy moments for each other in simple ways of sacrifice, prayer and alms giving. One small holy moment act can grow into a pattern of holy moments and create a better world beginning this Lenten season.

The second trimester officially closes February 23rd. Skyward gradebook access will be turned off on this date and will be turned back on February 29th to view and electronically sign student report cards.

I’m pleased to inform you that SMSA has hired Ms. Kenna Freiberg to fill the position of K-3 music for the remainder of the school year. Kenna is a new graduate from Marian University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Middle Education with a minor in Natural Science. Kenna has a positive and bubbly personality paired with a beautiful philosophy to education that is surrounded by faith. Kenna has been becoming accumulated to SMSA and the music classroom since mid-January. Ms. Freiberg has been a terrific fit in the classroom and SMSA as the students learn about music. As Ms. Freiberg supports our music curriculum for the remainder of this school year, we will continue our search for a music teacher for the upcoming school year.

The Principal’s Pen is an opportunity for teachers to recognize students
who consistently demonstrate The Ledger Way with a focus on faith, learning, respect for leadership, community and responsibility. The students chosen will attend a special breakfast with Mr. K and Mr. Fisher and special guest, receives a certificate with a brief sentence on how they followed The Ledger Way, and a principal’s pen.

This week’s Special Guest was Ashley Lane- Donor and Alumni Assistant Director at St. Mary’s Springs Academy This week’s Principal Pen award winners are:

Neyli B. (6th )- Neyli truly lives by the values of Learning and Responsibility of the Ledger Way. Whenever she needs help with her schoolwork, she doesn’t hesitate to email her teachers from home. And even during school hours, she’s always asking questions to make sure she understands everything, showing how dedicated she is to learning and taking responsibility for her education.

Aubrey S. (6th) – Aubrey is extremely respectful and always ready to learn. She is a leader at SMSA by always trying her best and leading by example. She is always prepared for math and science and always on time. Aubrey is great at participating in class discussions and sharing her ideas. She is a very responsible student. Our SMSA community is lucky to have Aubrey!

Victor H. (6th) – Victor is a responsible student who turns assignments in on time and tries his best in everything he does. He shows kindness and respect to his peers and teachers and is a good role model of faith for others.

Thomas K. ( 7th) – Tommy is very respectful. He is self-motivated to learn and helps others learn. He greets me hello and goodbye very often. He is responsible by getting his work done on time. He volunteers and cooperates with the class, and this helps develops a positive community.

Aiden R. (7th) – Aiden is a great representative of his classroom. He is very respectful and demonstrates wonderful qualities as a Christian. He is always willing to serve at Mass. He lives out his faith in word and action.

Allison S. (7th) – Allie is a wonderful young lady who is always putting her best effort forward in everything she does. She is a leader in class and goes out of her way to help teachers with anything they need. I am impressed daily with her and how she embodies our core values, especially when it comes to respect, learning, leadership and responsibility.

Sam K. (8th) – Sam is a diligent student who actively participates in class
discussions, takes the lead on group projects, and collaborates well with his peers. He is always respectful to both teachers and classmates, and his strong work ethic is a testament to his commitment to learning.

Bellana W. (8th) – Bellana continuously shows all the Core Values by being a ready volunteer to read morning prayer and the readings at Mass, even at a moment’s notice! She also puts her heart into the work she does in theology class. She will make a great member of the campus ministry team in high school!

Sam H. (8th) – Sam is respectful and shows responsibility by always working hard in class. He has great leadership skill.

Join us on the third Wednesday of each month in Lauby Lounge for the PPA meeting. All parents who have children in Middle School or High School are encouraged to attend.

With cold weather here, please remind your child(ren) to stop by the lost and found if they are missing a glove, hat, boot or even their jacket. The lost and found has been a very popular spot this year.
