FROM THE OFFICE OF STEVE KELNHOFER, PREK - 8TH GRADE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Guardians,

April of 2022 is heading towards our rearview mirror. Please take a look below at the upcoming events in the important dates section of this eLedger as we transition to the month of May. We are excited for many opportunities to celebrate and learn together as a community.

Individual grade field trips are another way we can learn together. If chaperoning a field trip is of interest to you, please keep an eye out for communication from your child’s classroom teacher. To chaperone a field trip volunteers need to go through the course of SafeGuarding God’s Children or SEE training and have SMSA run a background check. Sabina Carter will be at SMSA Thursday, May 5th, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the MPR to do an in person SEE training. Please use this link to sign up for the training. https://milwaukee.cmgconnect.org/.

Thank you for all your support and partnership as we transition to May at SMSA.
Together we create a path for tomorrow’s children to achieve amazing dreams.

God Bless,
Steven Kelnhofer

Drop off and Pick up Safety

For reasons of safety SMSA asks you to use the Hug and Go lanes, both in front of North Hall and in front of South Hall as intended. Please do not drop off or pick up your child or children at intersections of our parking lot. It appears from my perspective children are being dropped off and picked up in the incorrect locations. Which may be convenient for you, but is not safe for students or convenient to other vehicles.

The main area of concern is the main driveway coming towards SMSA and then at the intersection of making a decision to go left or right as you approach SMSA. This is not a drop off/pick up zone. Please help us stay safe and be a considerate community member. Thank you.

Standards Based Grading

The objective of the video series is to educate parents in short videos to unpack Standard Based Grading. The series intends to deliver an education and mindshift to understand Standards Based Grading, why Standards Based Grading is best practice, and how Standards Based Grading functions with the parent and teacher supporting the student’s journey.

Support Child Abuse Prevention - Wear Blue Day/Little Needs Donation - Friday, April 29

Join us to mark our support for child abuse prevention by wearing the color blue on Friday, April 29th. This would be a blue top (spirit-wear or other) with uniform pants. Wearing blue helps remind us and encourage others to prevent child abuse and support healthy children and families.

In addition, a free will donation of “little needs” items is available to support Fond du Lac’s Family Resource Center, who exists to support and help develop healthy families through their programming. This donation is not required, but an option to help support a local agency whose mission is tied to childhood abuse prevention. Donations can be dropped off in the boxes located in the front offices.

Donations could include:
Diapers, pull-ups, pull-up underwear, wipes, diaper rash cream, bottles, sippy cups, baby spoons, baby bowls/plates, pacifiers, teething items, baby/children’s shampoo, lotion, nose cleaners and hairbrush/combs.
