From the Office of Eamonn O'Keeffe: High School Principal

WELCOME BACK!

All the excitement and energy of the new school year awaits! Thank you for trusting SMSA to serve your family, and specifically for the privilege of providing an excellent Catholic education to your children.

We often say that the Good Lord is our partner on the Ledge.  We know that it is only through God’s grace and our mutual care for one another that we can effectively live the Gospel message of faith, hope and love at the Springs.   I look forward to deepening our understanding of the highlighted core value of LEARNING this year!  SMSA is a vibrant community that is fully dedicated to the intellectual, spiritual, personal and physical development of our Ledgers in the best tradition of Catholic schooling.

The fun begins in earnest this Friday (tomorrow), August 22nd as students return to the Ledge for Student Orientation Day!  On Friday, each high school grade level has a designated orientation time.  Ledgers are expected to abide by the dress code for this day (and each day forward)!  All students should enter and leave school at the North Hall main entrance, and will be directed to their Homerooms to begin orientation tasks. Parents, PLEASE ensure that students report a little earlier than the posted start times below:

Sophomores: 8am – 9:30am (90 minutes)

Juniors: 9:45am – 11:15am (90 minutes)

Seniors: 11:30am – 12:30pm (60 minutes)

Freshman: 12:45am – 3:30pm (165 minutes)

Key orientation tasks and mini-presentations are planned during Friday for all students and grade levels. Ledgers will meet in their homeroom, receive a locker assignment, their Chromebook, and a paper copy of their class schedule.  In addition to meeting with their homeroom teachers, freshmen Ledgers will have the added opportunity to practice moving around the school to meet their teachers in a mini-schedule.  During Orientation Day, all high school students should be sure to bring their school supplies to deposit in their locker and/or inside their homeroom as directed.

Also, please remember to reserve Wednesday, September 3rd on your calendar.  That is the date for Back to School Night in the high school only from 6:30 – 8:30pm.  ALL high school parents are invited to meet all the teachers who will serve your children this year. This is not a freshman only event.  The format is a mini schedule of all 8 class periods (A & B Day schedules). You won’t want to miss the overview and tips of your child’s teachers!  In addition, the high school administration will also be sharing information for parents in separate mini-presentations.

Watch for information about this important and special opportunity for home and school engagement.

Finally, I encourage you to bookmark eLedger https://www.smsacademy.org/eledger-issue/high-school/ for easy access.  It will provide you with regular and reliable updates EACH and every Thursday during the school year.

I’m looking forward to a fantastic school year with our Ledgers as they strive to grow in The Ledger Way – as a community of faithful leaders and learners,  who demonstrate respect,  and who take responsibility for personal growth and decisions.  We thank God for the many blessings of Catholic education and the opportunity to learn together at St. Mary’s Springs Academy!

Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us!

Eamonn O’Keeffe
Principal, High School
