WIS 23 Expansion Project

This week's update from the DOT

Description of work:  This portion of the WIS 23 improvement project will reconstruct and raise the profile of the existing four lane portion of WIS 23 from US 151 to Whispering Springs Boulevard and expand WIS 23 from 2 lanes to 4 lanes from Whispering Springs Boulevard to Seven Hills Road.  Interchanges will be constructed at County K and County UU, intersection improvements will also be made throughout the corridor.

September 13 to September 17:

The contractor continues to work on Highway 23 eastbound from Highway 151 to County UU, on Highway 23 westbound from County UU to Seven Hills Road, the new box culvert extension south of Whispering Springs, and the new Highway 23 eastbound bridge over County K.  Work will also continue on County K south of Highway 23, new Maryhill Drive, and the new County UU interchange.  The contractor completed the new retaining wall along the new Maryhill Drive roadway.

 

September 20 to September 24:

The contractor will continue to work on Highway 23 eastbound from Highway 151 to County UU, on Highway 23 westbound from County UU to Seven Hills Road, the new box culvert extension south of Whispering Springs, and the new Highway 23 eastbound bridge over County K.  Work will also continue on County K south of Highway 23, new Maryhill Drive, and the new County UU interchange.

 

Traffic impacts:

  • CTH UU (South of STH 23) – Closed
  • CTH UU (North of STH 23) – Closed
  • CTH K (South of STH 23) – Closed
  • CTH K North (Highway 23 Intersection) – Closed.
  • WB shoulder closure Whispering Springs to 7 Hills Road – Closed

 

The following restrictions will remain in place. 

  • Northbound Mary Hill to westbound highway 23
  • Southbound Whispering Springs to eastbound highway 23
  • Northbound Northway Drive to westbound highway 23
  • Westbound highway 23 to southbound Mary Hill
  • Eastbound highway 23 to northbound Whispering Springs
  • Westbound highway 23 to southbound Northway Drive

 

Please use alternate routes to access these locations. 


News from the Kitchen

SMSA is participating in the USDA Seamless Summer Option (SSO) for the entirety of the 2021-22 school year. This means that our school is providing free lunches to all students! Additional information is available in our back to school cover letter in the family packet.  As school foodservice programs are making preparations to return to normal service and menus, schools are facing unprecedented issues with the supply chain that will cause us to alter our posted menus with little to no notice. We are working closely with our distributors and manufactures to secure both the food and supply items needed to support our programs.  While it is our intention to serve the posted menu each day at school, supply issues will not make this possible throughout the school year until supply chain issues are rectified. We will always attempt to substitute the scheduled menu item with another that is as similar as possible to the extent we are able to do so.  

 

To help families keep abreast of changes SMSA is excited to offer MealViewer! This online menu service provides a quick and easy way to view our school’s daily menus.

Middle School and Varsity Football Parent Night - September 17th

This Friday’s varsity’s football game will be recognizing the parents of the players as well as recognizing the middle school football players.  Middle school players and coaches will be recognized at halftime.  

The game will be held at Fruth Field (72 W 9th Street) and kick off will be at 7:00.  The Ledgers will take on the Cougars of Campbellsport.

Honoring Sr. Judith Schmidt

On behalf of St. Mary’s Springs Academy, it is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved teacher, leader, mentor, colleague and friend, Sr. Judith Schmidt, CSA, on September 10, 2021. Sr. Judith was named the first President of St. Mary’s Springs Academy (formerly FACES-Springs Catholic Education System) on July 1, 2008 and led the System through its first three crucial years. Her steadfast leadership, vast knowledge of academia and fundraising, as well as her exuberant, infectious spirit and personality served SMSA well as she consolidated two independent Fond du Lac area Catholic educational institutions into one highly effective mission-driven System. In addition to being awarded President Emeritus status for SMSA, Sr. Judith received our 2011 Guardian Angel Lifetime Award and will be remembered fondly as she left an indelible mark on all those she encountered.

 

Please join us at our All System Mass tomorrow, Friday September 17th, as we will be offering the repose of the soul of Sr. Judith Schmidt. We are so grateful for her dedicated service to St. Mary’s Springs Academy.

Sports Passes Now Available

Are you a Ledger sports fan? Sports Passes are now available for purchase! The SMSA Sports Pass covers admissions for all home sporting events (excluding playoffs) for the 2021-2022 school year. Adult Passes and $50.00 and Senior Passes for those 65 and older are $25.00.

Heartbeat on Health

Hello Ledgers! I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Allisen Willis, the new Coordinator of Health Services at St. Mary’s Springs Academy. I have been a Registered Nurse for almost 11 years. I bring with me a background in Surgery, ER and Urgent Care. My family and I are Fond du Lac natives. I graduated from SMSA, as did my husband, Jake. We have two young children who will also be starting their journey at SMSA this year. I am so excited to once again be a part of the SMSA community and look forward to the school year ahead! 

 

After an unbelievable 18 months of successfully navigating COVID-19 in our schools and community, SMSA is excited to provide in-person learning  and virtual learning options this fall. While in-person, we continue to ask our parent(s)/guardian(s) to monitor their child for symptoms and keep them home, if they are sick. If symptoms are noted at school, parent(s)/guardian(s) will be notified and the child will need to be picked up from school promptly. Testing will be recommended. Students may return when they are symptom-free. Any student being sent home will be asked to wear a mask until they are picked up.

 

Symptom Checker: Please check your child for the following symptoms prior to each school day.

At least two of the following symptoms = stay home  

  • Fever over 100℉ 
  • Chills 
  • Muscle aches 
  • Headache 
  • Sore Throat 
  • Nausea or Vomiting 
  • Diarrhea 
  • Unusual Fatigue 
  • Congestion or runny nose 

OR 

At least one of the following symptoms = stay home 

  • Cough 
  • Shortness of breath 
  • Difficulty breathing 
  • Loss of taste 
  • Loss of smell 

Quarantine Guidelines 

  • Students or staff members who test positive for COVID-19 must self-isolate for 10 days. 
    • The 10-day isolation period begins the day the individual becomes symptomatic OR if asymptomatic, the day the positive test sample was collected. 
    • Individuals must quarantine through day 10 and can return to school on day 11 (some may have to isolate longer because of symptoms not improving). 
  • Students or staff members who are identified as a close contact to someone who has COVID-19 outside of their household will not need to quarantine if they are asymptomatic or if they have been vaccinated. 
  • Students or staff who are close contacts to a household member who has COVID-19 will need to quarantine unless they are vaccinated. A 14-day quarantine is recommended; however, it may be shortened to 7-10 days (depending on symptomatology and test results) from the last contact with the positive individual. 
    • If the close contact has still not had any symptoms of COVID-19 after 10 days from when the close contact occurred, they can return to school.
    • If the close contact has not had any symptoms of COVID-19 and receives a negative COVID-19 test result on day 6 of their quarantine or later, they can return from quarantine after 7 days. 
  • “Close contact” remains defined as six feet for 15 minutes or more within a 24-hour period of time. 
  • It is still recommended that anyone who is found to be a close contact be tested, regardless of whether or not they are experiencing symptoms. 
  • Students or staff members who become symptomatic after being identified as a close contact to someone who has COVID-19 must quarantine until they have been fever-free for 24 hours, have seen an improvement in symptoms and have received negative PCR test results. IF A POSITIVE PCR TEST – follow the above guidelines.
  • Those who are symptomatic and don’t get tested must be quarantined for 10 days from when their symptoms first began.

 

We will continue to promote hand washing, sanitizing, and covering one’s cough/sneeze. Routine cleaning and disinfection of common surfaces in schools will also be encouraged.
