A Message from the office of Julie Shively, EDD 6-12 Grade Principal

New Additional Faculty Members

I am thrilled to introduce some new faculty members who have accepted our offer to join our strong and growing community of learners!

Keith Koslowski is replacing Ms. Lindborg in high school English who is deservedly retiring (again!). He comes to us with twenty years at Wautoma High School as a high school English instructor. He shadowed last week and loves being back in a Catholic school environment similar to when he was a student. Keith is also eager to help out with athletics and other co-curriculars so we will see him a lot outside of the classroom.

Nate Roets will also bridge the middle and high school in Social Studies by teaching both 8th grade US history and high school history. Having been in education for seventeen years as a middle and high school teacher and administrator in the public school arena, he, looks forward to teaching through the Catholic lens!

These new members have already been in contact with our current faculty to learn about the culture and curriculum. We love the energy and new ideas that they bring and can’t wait for them to be with us next year.

Please join us in welcoming our new teachers and wishing well the teachers who are departing.

A Message from the SMSA Nurse, Katie Hellmer

Immunizations Update

    1. The Wisconsin Student Immunization Law requires that all students entering 6th grade receive a dose of Tdap ( Tetanus/ Diphtheria/ Pertussis) vaccine. Please have your child immunized well in advance of school starting, as it is often difficult to obtain clinic appointments when you wait until late summer.  To check if your child’s immunization record is up to date, contact SMSA school nurse, Katie Hellmer, call your child’s healthcare provider or the Fond du Lac County Health Department at 920-929-3085.

  1. With the outbreak of measles happening in the United States (as of today, none reported in Wisconsin) FDL County Health Department has recommended we make parents aware of the state immunization requirements, which are also followed by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee requirements for SMSA. It includes: If a substantial outbreak occurs in a school, or day care center, or in the municipality in which the school or day care center is located, the school or day care center shall exclude students who have not received all required immunizations against the disease, including students in all grades who have not had two (2) doses of measles vaccine when it is an outbreak of measles that is occurring, when ordered to do so by the department. The exclusion shall last until the student is immunized or until the department determines that the outbreak has subsided.

If you have any questions you are encouraged to contact the FDL Health Department at 920-929-3085 or Katie Hellmer, RN at khellmer@smsacademy.org

News and Information

News from the Kitchen

Foodservice is wrapping up another year. Summer is the time of year when staff recharges and looks for exciting new offerings for next year. It also is the time of year when families are trying to determine just how much they need in their food service account to make it to the end of the school year! Rest assured that all food service balances roll over into the next school year, and if your family is leaving the system with graduates, etc., know that all remaining funds are returned to exiting families after the end of the last day of service.

We in the kitchen want to say thank you for letting us serve your children this year. It is our pleasure to put out great offerings every day and look forward to an even better program next year.

Have a good summer!
