Take a horse-drawn carriage ride and try your luck on gift baskets worth up to $1,000 at Oktoberfest this Saturday, September 28 at the Holy Family Church and Prayer Garden. The festival begins at 4:00 pm with a special bilingual Mass featuring Readings and music in German and English. At 5:00 pm, treat yourself to a feast in the Prayer Garden, where you will find bratwurst, German potato salad, nachos, corn cocktails, soups, homemade desserts, and beverages, including Oktoberfest beer. There will be no shortage of entertainment, as the line-up includes music from the band Dorf Kapelle and activities like an inflatable obstacle course, inflatable axe throwing, facepainting, balloon animals, the Cristo Rey Ranch petting zoo, visits from local law enforcement patrol vehicles, and cotton candy. You will also have the chance to win amazing baskets in our basket raffle and shop for unique items from local artisans at our Makers Market. Admission is free, with food, and raffle tickets available for purchase.
In observance of Respect Life Month, Holy Family invites everyone to join in praying the Rachel Rosary at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 6 now at St. Mary Church. The Rachel Rosary is a six-decade Rosary specially modified to emphasize prayer for victims of abortion and post-abortion syndrome. Afterward, everyone is also invited to participate in the Annual Stand for Life (formerly called Life Chain) – an hour of public silent prayer vigil for the unborn and vulnerable – from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the corner of West Johnson Street and North Peters Avenue.
On Sunday, October 6, we will offer a Mass of Thanksgiving for our parish’s new deacon, Marty Ryan, at the 10:00 am Mass at Holy Family Church. After Mass, join us for refreshments and congratulate Deacon Marty Ryan on his ordination.
Men of Holy Family and our Catholic community are invited to join the St. Ambrose Men’s Group for That Man is You! each Wednesday from 5:30-7:00 am in the Holy Family North Hall beginning September 11. The morning will include a full breakfast, video from the program and a small group discussion. This year’s theme, Apostles of the New Springtime, will cover medical science with the teachings of the Church and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of man fully alive. Holy Family Catholic Community is now hiring for its Christian Formation Administrative Assistant and Funeral Coordinator roles. The Administrative Assistant will work with those in Christian Formation to organize and support its programs and events, and help with background clerical work, including with Sacraments. The Funeral Coordinator will meet with bereaved families, work with funeral homes, and manage day-of coordination for funerals happening within the parish. The position is up to 15 hours per week, with the schedule dependent on the funerals taking place.

Building Your Domestic Church Parent Sessions will be returning to Sacred Heart Church on October 9. Each week, one of Holy Family’s priests will present a topic along with a guest couple in reference to raising children in today’s society. This is a great time to learn how to take your Catholic faith beyond the Church doors and into your home. These sessions will run on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, from October through March, at Sacred Heart Church from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Please note, there will be no session during the month of December.
Children ages 4-7 who have not yet received their First Communion are invited to learn about the Liturgy of the Word at their level with our Children’s Liturgy of the Word program! Children leave before the Liturgy of the Word to hear the Readings from the Children’s Lectionary instead. The program is offered at the 10:00 am Holy Family Mass, as well as at the 10:00 am Our Risen Savior Mass on the third Sunday of the month. It will return to the 8:30 am St. Peter Mass on October 6, as well as to 9:00 am Sacred Heart Mass that month.
Help to support the Holy Family Warming Shelter for a chance to win $10,000. The anticipated operating cost for the shelter this season is to be about $200,000. You can help us defer this cost by participating in our Holy Family Warming Shelter Raffle! Tickets are $20 each or six for $100. The top prize is $10,000, with additional prizes of $3,500, $2,500 and $1,000. Winners will be drawn at 5:30 pm on October 24 at the Holy Family Warming Shelter. Tickets are available to purchase at our Parish Office front desk and can be purchased online at hffdl.org/warming-shelter.
Holy Family welcomes anyone who may be interested in becoming Catholic to learn more about the faith! OCIA (Order of Catholic Initiation, formerly RCIA) is for those adults who are not baptized, those from other faith traditions, and those baptized Catholic, but not raised Catholic. Women are invited to join their fellow parishioners on the Holy Family Bus Trip to the Women of Christ Conference on Saturday, November 16. The bus will board in the Holy Family Church parking lot at 6:15 am, leave at 6:30, and travel down to the Brookfield Conference Center. The Women of Christ Conference provides women the opportunity to celebrate their Catholic faith with women throughout the area. The bus trip will cost $25 per person (an additional $1.75 processing fee if paying online) and St. Mary’s Springs Academy employees, young adults, and Holy Family staff/catechists travel free.
