Principal’s Desk News & Information Upcoming Dates High School Counseling
Friday, October 20 marks the final day of Quarter 1. We are officially halfway through the First Semester! As is our practice during grading periods, Skyward family access will be temporarily disabled. This Skyward ‘blackout’ will begin at 3:30 pm on October 20 and conclude at 12:00 (Noon) on October 25. During this time period teachers will submit, finalize and verify Quarter 1 grades. Parents may view and print Quarter 1 Report Cards after 12:00 Noon on October 25…just in time for Parent & Guardian-Teacher Conferences!
On Wednesday, October 25, the high school is pleased to host Parent & Guardian-Teacher Conferences with teachers available in their classrooms from 4-6:30 pm.
While not required, Parent & Guardian Teacher Conferences are 100% highly recommended! At SMSA, we place a high value on our parent-school partnership. We are also an intimate community which adds the ability to develop authentic home and school connections. What a blessing! Building a personal relationship with teachers is a great way for parents and guardians to support our common goal of fostering student holistic growth and accountability. Teachers are eager to meet parents in-person and enjoy offering useful data and anecdotes about learning standards and their engagement with students. Parents do not need to schedule in advance. Simply come and stay for as long as you can. An “open house” style format will be observed.
Mrs. Amerling and our two school counselors, Mrs. McCarthy and Mrs. Cauley, will be at the check-in table inside North Hall to greet you upon arrival. Parents will check-in and receive a paper copy of your son’s or daughter’s schedule, and a checklist of teachers and their classroom locations. In addition, a preliminary copy of the J-Term 2024 Booklet will also be available for pick-up. A finalized version will be shared with all students and families later this month.
We recommend that conferences last no longer than 10 minutes with any individual teacher. If more time for discussion is desired, parents and guardians can schedule another dedicated appointment with a teacher for a subsequent virtual or in-person meeting.
If October 25th is not convenient for you, please don’t fret. Know that – in addition to tracking student progress via the Skyward parent portal at any time – parents can always reach out to teachers to schedule a phone or virtual conversation when questions arise, or simply to obtain added perspective on student progress.
SMSA Honor Rolls are currently being recalibrated to align with the grading scale changes initiated this school year. Honor Rolls shall be published for each grade level at the end of Semester I & II, as these are the grading periods which reflect “permanent grades” – those that identify academic credit earned or unearned and which are required to appear on a student’s permanent transcript.
While Quarter grades and Mid-Quarter Progress Report grades are important snapshots of student progress, these grades are never recorded on a permanent transcript.
Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us.

As fall sports start to wind down, the SMSA Athletic Department is beginning preparations for winter sports. If you have an athlete interested in participating on a winter sports team, the athletic paperwork needs to be completed prior to the season start. If your athlete has competed in a fall sport, they do not need to complete the paperwork again. The forms are included in the link below.
Please contact Kelly Mueller at kmueller@smsacademy.org with any questions. Good luck to our fall sports teams as they finish their seasons. Go Ledgers!
If you are the parent of an athlete, please consider giving of your time to help out in one of our concession stands or with admissions. The Booster Club supports ALL SMSA sports, so feel free to help out at activities your kiddos are not in, to assure other parents can watch their son or daughter in that particular sport. This is a great opportunity to serve and see/meet more of our Ledger family.
Signing up is easy…..just click on one of the links and select a date that best fits your schedule.
A big thank you to those that have already signed up and given their support!
