Spring Break, End of Quarter 3:
Spring officially arrived in Wisconsin on Monday, just in time for SMSA to take a well deserved Spring Break next week! Friday, March 25 is the final day of classes before we begin a week of Spring Break on the Ledge! Classes will resume on Monday, April 4 (B-Day). March 25 is also the final day for Quarter 3. Given the way Spring Break falls on the calendar, Quarter 3 grades will be finalized on April 4, and available to parents and students in Skyward by April 8. Faculty will be unavailable during Spring Break.
Family and student access to Skyward gradebooks will be inaccessible from 3:30pm on March 25 to 8am on Friday April 8.

Class of 2022 Valedictorian & Salutatorian:
The Class Valedictorian is the student who has earned the highest cumulative grade point average over the first seven (7) semesters of high school, and thus ranks first academically in their class. The Class Salutatorian is the student who has earned the second highest cumulative grade point average in their class over the first seven (7) semesters of high school, and thus ranks second academically in the class.
Today, during a special prayer service in the Chapel, the Class of 2022 academic top ten and Class Valedictorian and Salutatorian were announced for the first time. At this time, SMSA is pleased to share that the Valedictorian of the Class of 2022 is Gregory Gehring, and the Salutatorian of the Class of 2022 is Margaret Sawicki. We thank Greg and Maggie for their commitment to learning and congratulate both for their academic accomplishments and for earning this special recognition!
Absence from School
SMSA publishes its school calendar well in advance of the school year. It is always available online to reference. Academic Calendar 2021-22. Parents and guardians are trusted to do their very best to respect and support the school calendar and the natural limits of the school year. Holidays and breaks are generous. Research has demonstrated that poor attendance (missing more than 5 days of classes in a semester or 10 days or more per year) can be very disruptive to student learning and achievement. Consecutive days missing are particularly challenging for students from a learning loss perspective. Research also indicates that those who remain in school can also be negatively impacted by the disruption of learners who are absent from the classroom. Of course, teacher lesson planning is also challenged by absenteeism. In the end, absence from school always affects more than one student. We encourage all Ledgers to be present whenever school is in session. We have high goals for learning at SMSA. To meet our Ledger learning goals, absence should be avoided, and hopefully, a very rare and unavoidable occurrence.
SMSA parents/guardians may submit a request for anticipated absence at any time during the school year. Naturally, whenever a student is away from class, loss of learning, and the subsequent frustration that can also result may be a natural consequence. We also know that some absences are less timely than others. Absence at the end of a grading cycle for example may also have an unintended negative impact on a student learning and/or grades. Please remember that students are responsible for all missing or late coursework and for initiating and making arrangements directly with their teachers regarding any absence. Teachers will outline expectations for accomplishing missed assignments and assessment.
Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us!
