Principal’s Desk News & Information Upcoming Dates High School Counseling
All the excitement and energy of the new school year awaits! Thank you for trusting SMSA to serve your family, and specifically for the privilege of providing an excellent Catholic education to your children. We often say that the Good Lord is our partner on the Ledge. We know that it is only through God’s grace and our mutual care for one another that we can effectively live the Gospel message of faith, hope and love at the Springs. I look forward to deepening our understanding of the core value of COMMUNITY this year! SMSA is a vibrant community that is fully dedicated to the intellectual, spiritual, personal and physical development of our Ledgers in the best tradition of Catholic schooling.
Next Tuesday, August 20th – students will be welcomed back to the Ledge for Student Orientation Day! On that day, each high school grade level has a designated orientation time. Ledgers are expected to abide by the dress code for this day (and each day forward)! All students should enter and leave school at the North Hall main entrance, and will be directed to their Homerooms to begin orientation tasks. PLEASE ensure that students report a little earlier than the posted start times below:
— Sophomores: 8am – 9:30am (90 minutes)
— Juniors: 9:45am – 11:15am (90 minutes)
— Seniors: 11:30am – 12:30pm (60 minutes)
— Freshman: 12:45am – 4pm (195 minutes)
In addition to key orientation mini-presentations and assemblies that are planned, all students will have the chance to meet in their homeroom, receive a locker assignment, their Chromebook, and a paper copy of their class schedule. In addition to meeting with their homeroom teachers, freshmen Ledgers will have the added opportunity to practice their schedule, move around the school to meet their teachers. All high school students should bring their school supplies to deposit in their locker and/or inside their homeroom as directed.
Also, please reserve Wednesday, September 4th on your calendar. That is the date for high school Back to School Night from 6:30 – 8pm. ALL high school parents are invited to the Ledge to meet all the teachers who will serve your children this year. This is not a freshman only event. The format is a mini schedule of all 8 class periods. You won’t want to miss the overview and tips of your child’s teachers! More information will be shared soon about this important and special opportunity for parent-teacher engagement.
Finally, I encourage you to bookmark eLedger www.smsacademy.org/eledger-issue/high-school/ for easy access. It will provide you with regular and reliable updates EACH and every Thursday during the school year.
I look forward to a fantastic school year with our Ledgers as they strive to grow in The Ledger Way – as a community of faithful leaders and learners, who demonstrate respect, and who take responsibility for personal growth and decisions. We thank God for the many blessings of Catholic education and the opportunity to learn together at St. Mary’s Springs Academy!
Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us!

Welcome Back! We hope you had a wonderful summer! Are you wanting to get more involved in our Parent Connectors Group? If so, look for the Parent Connectors volunteer form in your packet you will be receiving at the supply drop off day (3K-5th Grade). If your youngest child is in 6th grade or above, you won’t be receiving a form to fill out but can email Andrea Nuss, alnuss@charter.net, to share that you are interested in being a part of our group. Every year a new email group gets created so please submit your form even if you have done so in the past years. Also, only one form per family is needed to be filled out. Throughout the year, our group has various school family events as well shows our amazing SMSA Staff how appreciative we are for them. By being a part of our group, you will receive emails that shares ways you can help with these events through volunteering and donating. Our group wouldn’t be a successful without all of the wonderful people involved in it. Thank you so much! If you have any questions, please email Andrea Nuss, alnuss@charter.net.
